Prof Prakash in his opening note stated that he had come here “to learn from the great people of Rajagiri, from the teachers who have shaped innumerable lives, from the temple of higher learning, how I am going to imbibe the values from the people of this institution”.He went on to say that “if one is to immortalize, it is best to start an educational institution because these are what will endure and stand the test of time, they will leave behind legacies that expand. In the course of his lecture he recalled that the nations that met in Geneva after World War 1 agreed on 32 resolutions one of which one was on education that had three assertions – provide necessary tools for children for their natural development, backward children should be supported by the nation state and place children where they can lead a decent and responsible life. He said that we still have not changed these fundamentals.
He lauded Rajagiri for having students from North East India which stands testimony for its commitment to reach out to the talent in remote areas and to have representatives from all strata of society. He talked about alternative models of higher educations like MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) and how teachers will have to transform and upgrade their skills to cater to such changes.
