Transcend - a day with young minds
The event is held annually by Rajagiri Transcend where the transcend volunteers spend a whole day with the kids from nearby locality who come for Shiksargah every Sunday. An outing, food and various activities will be planned for the kids.
This year the event took place on 20th August 2017, Sunday. The kids and volunteers were asked to report in the campus by 9:00 am. 48 kids came for the event along with 15 volunteers from senior batch and 30 volunteers from junior batch.
The kids were divided into group of 10 and each volunteer was allotted with 2 kids. There was a group leader for each team and senior volunteers to supervise the entire batch.
The group was taken to South Kalamassery metro station from where we took metro to Palarivottom, and back from Palarivottom to Kalamassery. The journey was fun filled and the kids who were travelling in the metro for the first time had an elating experience.
Once the ride was over, they were taken back to college from where delicious food was served for the kids as well as the volunteers; the entire group had food together.
After the lunch, it was a trip to park as per schedule but due to heavy rain, the plan called off and an alternative of projecting a movie for the kids planned. The show took place in KRL auditorium and the movie “Godha” was screened. The lab technicians came by to assist the program. The kids really enjoyed the movie and had a splendid time.
After the movie, drinks were served and then the kids were sent safely back to their houses. The entire program got over by 5pm. The event was indeed a wonderful experience, not just for the kids but also for the volunteers. “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” All the money in the world could not buy us the feeling of content what we felt by just realizing the fact that we became a reason for someone else’s smile. The smile on the face of the kids was the greatest proof how successful and fruitful the event turned out to be.
